In the past, and before moving to the Worthing area in the late 1990s, I studied pottery, weaving and silversmithing and practised and taught a variety of crafts. Since then I have taken the opportunity to attend some of the many classes and courses provided by local colleges and artists; representational drawing and painting, portrait painting, life drawing and sculpture. Although I learnt a great deal from these, I am always drawn back to abstract art. The inspiration for my paintings comes from my love of colour, of nature in general, and of the seashore and horizons in particular. I work mainly with oils and acrylics and am always experimenting with new techniques, which means that my works are constantly evolving and changing. I claim no deep and meaningful rationale for my paintings – they simply are – but I do hope they evoke positive emotions and feelings in the viewer, and enhance and civilize the surrounding environment. However, it is sufficient for me if you like the colours and forms, find them pleasing to the eye, and look upon them purely as decoration.
