I have been living and working in Brighton and Worthing since 1975 during which time I have taught both Art and Ceramics. Having now left teaching some tears ago I am now able to concentrate on painting and building up a body of work big enough to exhibit from. My paintings began mainly as landscapes, in an impressionist style some of which were of local scenes but quite a lot were inspired by the scenery of S.W. France, particularly the Lot valley. Trees, fields and flowers featured heavily in these paintings and I tried to create the atmosphere and colour of the landscape, rather than a more precise image. This lead to a concentration on small detailed paintings solely of trees or grass. For several years I have been developing more abstract/contemporary work but often found that I was at that unable to make the move to pure abstract work and needed still needed to retain a link to reality. A lot of these paintings were in a contemporary style and concentrated on the surface of water. They attempted to explore the relationship between water fire and earth and looked at man and the nature of his environment. The overriding aim was to create beauty and harmony. However, alongside this I am always continually working out new ideas and experimenting. These ideas are gradually drawn into my work and for this reason it is continually changing. All my work is in oil paint on canvas and if framed I prefer to frame them myself in order to match them precisely to the piece of artwork. I try to produce as perfect a finished item as possible.
